If that Nightwish song is under 6 mb, could you maybe upload it for me . I feel like reviewing a song of theirs. If the file is too big, maybe the Death song would be good.... |

This thread was fun back when people participated and I'm bored so I'm going to bump it.
Recommedations (from iTunes)
The Beatles- I'm Only Sleeping (psychedelic rock)
Jefferson Airplane- Today (psychedelic rock)
Any Colour You Like (psychedelic rock)
U2- The Unforgettable Fire (rock)
Somebody do Any Colour You Like. Or any of them, I don't really care. But that song would be pretty cool to review. Just ask or hit me up on aim for uploads. |

Jefferson Airplane - Today
I had a review written up, but right before I posted it I fucking hit the ESC button, so I'm gonna make this one even shorter than my first...
The song has a cool intro, and I enjoyed the guitar work. The song has a nice peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. However, I wasn't so keen on the vocals, and considering I know little about Jefferson Airplane, I'm not sure whether the lead singer is male or femlae. Could someone clarify this for me maybe?? The chorus to the song is fairly catchy, and I didn't mind the vocals at this point.
There's not much else I can review on. The song was very short, and only mediocre in my opinion....6/10
My Picks:
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Yellow Brick Road
Frank Zappa - My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama
Genesis - Firth of Fifth
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Good Time Boys
Tool - Stinkfist |

Grace Slick does the female vocals and Marty Balin does the male vocals.
and Jerry Garcia does the chilin part on the guitar.
I'll do Good Time Boys.
The building slap bass to the intro is kinda of annoying but the riff following that is ownage. The verse is good but nothing great, the chorus however is really cathcy and makes me think of what the song is titled about. Anthony does the regular rapping/singing and the lyrics are entertaining. I loves John's playing in this song especially nice and funky. The thing i dont get it the wierd breakdown in the middle of the song witht he sampling thing. Luckily it doesnt last long and John putsout another amazing riff. Flea's bass is always great but it stands out to me particulary in the chorus where the slaps can be heard over the group vocals.
John also does a pretty nice solo on this track but Anthony wrecks it by doing this wierd chant thing in the background. Still an awesome "feel good song" with a couple awesome riffs.

Marty Balin does the lead vocals on Today if you were wondering who the lead singer was.
Grateful Dead- Eyes of the World
The song sounds like it could have been off Workingman's Dead or American Beauty as it has the same laid back country rock feel. It starts with a nice upbeat riff from Garcia and some soft Garcia vocals. Garcia gives off a nice happy solo and then sings another verse. I love the lyrics in this song. They are very happy and give off a positive vibe. In the first verse, Garcia sings the word "lazy" a few times, and the song just has that lazily lying outside on a summer day kind of feel. And I love the line, "wake up to find that you are the eyes of the world" very uplifting. Anyway, musically, Garcia gives off a couple nice solos and Lesh has a pretty cool bassline. Like most Grateful Dead songs, all the instruments flow together and Garcia's lead guitar weaves in and out with cool little fills during the singing and 2 nice solos during the instrumental breaks. A great song.
10/10
Tea Leaf Green- Kali Yuga
Cream- Sunshine Of Your Love
Neil Young- The Restless Consumer
The Rolling Stones- Sweet Virginia
John Lennon- Well, Well, Well |

Neil Young - The Restless Consumer
This gave me a chance to write a brief review on a song from Neil's new album, which I was wholly dissapointed about...
The song has a solid plain intro (which is seen on the majority of the albums tracks), but the choir really turns me off, and pretty much ruins my hopes for the rest of the song. There's also something about Neil's vocals in this song that really bother me. I don't like the placement of the lyrics. The theme to this song is dissapointing for me as well. I don't like the protest of this song, as well as the protest of the album in general. I'm at least pleased for the solid rythm section, but like I mentioned, it's plain, and nothing special, but it is solid.
This album was a huge dissapointment for me, and this song didn't better my view on the album at all. Even though I find this to be a disaster in Neil's discography, it doesn't change my view on him as a phenomenal artist. 4/10
My Picks:
Frank Zappa - Cosmik Debris
King Crimson - Pictures of A City
Pink Floyd - Have A Cigar
Primus - Kalamazoo
Rush - 2112 (I'd love to see someone attempt this. You'll become a mod if you review this ) |

Pink Floyd- Have a Cigar
This is easy since I already wrote an analysis of the lyrics for the Pink Floyd thread on mx back in the day- http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8073279&postcount=4950
So I'll just review it musically here. It starts off with a really funky guitar/bass part before Wright's keyboard and Mason's drums come in. Wright, Gilmour, and Waters combine to lay down one of Floyd's best grooves ever and Mason's drumming is just really steady and simple/boring but works. Roy Harper sings this song since he was recording in the studio right next to them and both Waters and Gilmour's voices were shot from doing so many takes. Musically, aside from the groove, Wright has some really awesome keyboard effects tossed in and Gilmour chips in a few cool fills. Around 3 minutes in, Gilmour takes off on one of my personal favorite solos from him. It's just perfect. Emotional, amazing tone, and it's one of those solos where every note is just perfect. Undescribable. Towards the end of the song, there's some kind of a whooshing noise from Wright's keyboard and Gilmour's guitar gets quieter but he continues to solo for the last 30 seconds as the song fades out. At the end you hear some voices and that little cartoon noise thing that introduces Wish You Were Here.
10/10
Hamana- Shine On (Folk Rock)
The Who- 905 (oh what happens when rock gets infected by disco)
The Beatles- The Commonwealth Song (Rock)
The Grateful Dead- The Other One Jam (Jam)
Matisyahu- Aish Tamid (Jewish Reggae Rap) |

If you think Living With War is a disaster you obviously haven't checked out his 80's material.
Hamana-Shine On
Starts with some chimes and soft electric guitar.....then a smooth bassline. When the drums come in it feels like a soft rock adult radio song. His voice is kinda rough, think Roger Waters. The vocals didnt do anything for me but when he throws a guitar solo in it gets a bit better. The chorus seems better for me, the verses just drag. Weird pedal steel thing was thrown in for like 2 seconds during the chorus, kinda quiet though. The last couple mintues aren't bad because its just the refrain, but overall this song sounds too "adult radio". haha if you know what i mean. However it wasn't that bad. 5/10
Can-Spoon(Krautrock)
Charles Mingus-Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (jazz)
Ravi Shankar-Bangla Dhun (Concert for Bangladesh) (Indian Classical)
Rolling Stones-Sweet Black Angel (Rock)
Miles Davis-Bitches Brew (Fusion) (SOMEONE DO THIS 26 MINUTE SONG) |
